The remedy for a dreary Fri? Makeup, patent leather jumpsuits and an audio/visual overload celebrating forever phoenix and New York native, David Bowie. That’s right, this week we took in the “David Bowie Is” exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum.

Thinking it might help to first know who he ‘was’ before going, some of our classes featured Bowie mini-lessons. (Labyrinth anyone?) The exhibition was designed to be experienced with a soundtrack of music and audio segues, so Sennheiser’s on we wandered. There was a lot to take in: film and video clips looping on wall-sized screens, drawings, paintings, photographs, and more. Some students were surprised to recognize his music. Some noticed Bowie’s multi-cultural influences, from Germany to Japan, and his international collaborators. Others admittedly were a little overwhelmed by the crowds and welcomed exploring the other floors of the museum afterwards. (What can we say? NYC loves their Thin White Duke.)
