SPEAK! (...and read ...and write)

All English students want to improve their speaking. And if you come to NYEA, your speaking will definitely improve. But our student-centered, immersive English program is also perfect for students who want focused, high-quality English Language instruction in all four major skill areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Our courses incorporate top notch teaching methodology to improve pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and conversational skills.

But your new English skills are not meant to stay in the classroom! You have to use your language in real-life, native speaking environments. That's why NYEA also offers a variety of optional field trips (optional) and extra-curricular academic activities that go beyond the basic tourist attractions to give students a look at the real New York. We plan trips to less well-known museum exhibits, uncover places of historical interest, visit local favorites, and give students a deeper look at New York City life!

Highlights of NYEA’s Standard English Program

  • Emphasis on speaking, grammar, listening, vocabulary, writing and academic skills!
  • Graded weekly writing and speaking assignments!
  • Five different levels with the opportunity to advance each month!
  • Exciting field trips and extracurricular school activities! (optional)
  • Starting dates each Monday for every level!
  • Monthly English progress test!
  • New York State authorized Certification of Completion at the end of your course of study!
  • No more than twelve (12) students in each level!

Student Transcript

Each month students will receive an official, detailed grade report based on weekly assignments and exam score. You will be able to see how much your English is improving every month and share your results with friends and family.

Student Interview

The diversity of this school makes it fun, interesting and good for studying.

Shuchiro Mori  - August 2017
Class : Standard English Full

I’m Shuchiro Mori, from Japan. I’m a university student, I study photography. I’m studying advertisement photography and fashion photography and New York is famous for its fashion. I also want to learn about business, and here in New York, there are people from all around the world, which makes it perfect for studying the world’s business techniques. There are so many language schools here, I checked many of them. But this school has very small, comfortable classes, which set it apart from the rest.

Also, this school seemed the most diverse, with people from all continents. Many language schools have students only from Europe, etc. The diversity of this school makes it fun, interesting and good for studying. I need to make connections around the world, and since the students at this language school are from everywhere, I can make many friends. So, this school is perfect for me.

I loved the international vision in every subject that we’ve learned. New York City is definitely a great city to learn English in.

Caroline Tresallet  - July 2017
Class : Standard English Part-time

My name is Caroline, I came from France with my boyfriend for 4 weeks of classes with the classic program in the morning. I wish I could stay for more weeks. Even though I only had one month at school, I noticed my English improved. Especially for comprehension. Now, I’m able to watch a movie without subtitles and understand everything, that’s awesome! The atmosphere at the school is really good. I loved the international vision in every subject that we’ve learned. New York City is definitely a great city to learn English in.

Also, the school is very well located, it’s a dynamic neighborhood. The area is full of shops, cafes and restaurants, and we’re very close to the Wall Street Pier, where you can take the ferry to Rockaway Beach and other nice places. We’ve been to that beach on a Friday school trip, it was really fun and good to share experiences and great times with other classmates. I definitely recommend this school.

Standard English 20: Perfect for overseas students

New York can be a confusing place for newcomers. So NYEA has designed a special program just for them.

Not all students have the same needs. Some have been studying in New York City for a long time, but others have only recently arrived in the Big Apple. These students, often overseas students, are thrilled about their new environment and looking to jump in and embrace all the unique excitement and energy that NYC has to offer.

Standard English 20 is mostly identical to our current 18 hour per week Standard English Program. However, it includes a BONUS 2 hours every week of specialized NYC Survival English to help overseas students (or anyone new to NYC) navigate this sometimes crazy, baffling and amazing city.

Learn about:

  • NYC etiquette
  • Local slang and customs
  • Navigating NYC
  • New York City higher education system
  • Living in a multicultural city
  • MUCH MUCH more!!!

Standard English Part-Time (For non F-1 Visa students)

Not everyone comes to the New York on a student visa. Often our students arrive here on the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) or a tourist visa. In these cases, the U.S government prohibits them from taking a full-time program. NYEA, however, has created a way for those students to participate in our Standard English Program too.

The Part-time Program is Monday - Thursday. Students will be in the same classes as the full-time students and cover the same curriculum. And they get Friday off! This program is a great choice for non-visa students who still want an intensive, dedicated program.
