“David Bowie Is” at the Brooklyn Museum (4/6/18) April 10, 2018
The remedy for a dreary Fri? Makeup, patent leather jumpsuits and an audio/visual overload celebrating forever phoenix and New York native, David Bowie. That’s right, this week we took in the “David Bowie Is” exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum.
Thinking it might help to first know who he ‘was’ before going, some of our classes featured Bowie mini-lessons. (Labyrinth anyone?) The exhibition was designed to be experienced with a soundtrack of music and audio segues, so Sennheiser’s on we wandered. There was a lot to take in: film and video clips looping on wall-sized screens, drawings, paintings, photographs, and more. Some students were surprised to recognize his music. Some noticed Bowie’s multi-cultural influences, from Germany to Japan, and his international collaborators. Others admittedly were a little overwhelmed by the crowds and welcomed exploring the other floors of the museum afterwards. (What can we say? NYC loves their Thin White Duke.)
Field Trip to Macy’s Flower Show (Friday, 3/30/18) April 2, 2018
A group of four left the school around 1:45 pm and headed towards Macy’s for their annual Flower Show via the A/C line to 34th Street. Once having arrived, we proceeded to walk along the outside of Macy’s before entering to enjoy the flower show. Most of the main floor was decorated with different floral setups, as well as part of the second, not to mention many of the windows outside for passers-by to look at and enjoy. After spending nearly an hour admiring the flower show, we took more photos of the windows outside, as well as ourselves before heading to a cafe in nearby Korea Town, where we had chicken, vegetable and curry buns, cheesecake, green tea ice cream and Thai bubble tea. After chatting for a while, we left at around 4:30 pm and parted ways.
