Local New Yorkers and tourists alike flock to Coney Island, the famous beach side Brooklyn neighborhood each summer to experience its many exciting attractions. Having heard so many good things about it, our students requested to visit Coney Island for our most recent field trip. We arrived at Coney Island around 2:30 and immediately started exploring. After walking around the amusement park, Luna Park, for a while, some decided to ride the world-famous Cyclone. Afterwards, we got a bite at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, then headed towards the boardwalk to take more photos. We then took a stroll on the pier and even saw someone catch a baby shark before heading home. Despite the heat, everyone had a great time!

This past Friday, NYEA students visited one of New York’s many world-class art museums, the Brooklyn Museum. With 5 floors of unique and interesting exhibits, the Brooklyn Museum is one of the largest museums in the city, as well as in the United States. From Ancient Egyptian artifacts to modern art, there was a lot to see in the 3 hours we spent touring the museum. Of particular interest to our students was the “Decorative Arts” exhibition and Period Rooms, where we had the opportunity to go inside two recreated homes from colonial New York. To end the day, some students headed to a Colombian restaurant nearby for lunch before going their separate ways to kick off the weekend.
