CITY ISLAND THE BRONX

In the last year we have taken the students from NYEA to a lot of New York’s iconic places. Outside and inside the city, however, one of the places we have never been until this past Friday is City Island. Even some of the teaches from the school have never been there, and that made the students even more excited. I must admit that getting there is not an easy task, especially if you are in the Wall Street area. First the students and I took the four train to 125th St. and then changed to the local 6 all the way to the last stop and from there we waited for a bus which took around ten minutes to ride to the island. The students couldn’t believe the island is part of New York or that it is considered The Bronx. The island is very friendly with lots of trees, beautiful small streets, and nice houses. It’s a really good way to escape from the city and search for amazing seafood restaurants, and that’s exactly what we did. Sammy’s is one of the most famous places to eat out there and even though we wanted to give business to other small restaurants, we just couldn’t avoid stopping by Sammy’s. As soon as you sit down, the staff welcomes you with warm bread and a big salad. What can I tell you? We couldn’t ask for more. The portions in this place are big but they are also delicious. They are expensive but worth every penny. On the way back we stopped for some ice cream and walked all the way to the beginning of the island. It’s a small island so please, if you have some time and want to get out of the city but don’t have a car, City Island is definitely the place to visit.
